RIYADH β€” Dr. Esam Alwagait, director of National Information Center under the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), presented on Thursday awards to the winners of the inaugural International AI Olympiad (IAIO).

The competition was jointly organized by SDAIA, the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), and the International Research Center on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The Olympiad, held during the third edition of the Global AI Summit (GAIN Summit) in Riyadh, saw eight students claim gold medals, 16 win silver, and 20 receive bronze. Over three days, students from 25 countries participated in individual scientific tests, with each country represented by a team of up to four students.

The competition featured a mix of theoretical and practical challenges, including scientific tests, experimental problem-solving using artificial-intelligence (AI) techniques, and practical demonstrations.

IAIO aligns with SDAIA’s mission to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in data and AI. The event also contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals by raising awareness of the importance of advanced technologies and equipping societies with the necessary knowledge and skills
