After it was revealed that only four major surgeries were done in three and a half years due to the ongoing operation of the tuberculosis hospital in Shivdi and the absence of anaesthesiologist, now as many as 3 thousand 185 patients have died of tuberculosis in the last three and a half years in Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Shivdi Hospital. It includes 2 thousand 126 males and 1 thousand 59 females. In 2021, 974 people died while in 2022, 959 patients died. 855 patients died in 2023 and 397 deaths till May 2024. The number of patients dying from tuberculosis is showing a slight decrease in the last few years. But generally two to three patients are dying of tuberculosis per day. The number of drug sensitive patients is more than the number of drug sensitive patients. 2 thousand 277 drug sensitive patients have died of tuberculosis while 908 drug resistant patients have died. Since tuberculosis is treated at home, a patient is brought to the hospital only when his condition becomes serious. Many patients have low oxygen levels. They do not apply pill dosage. They also have other diseases like alcoholism, diabetes, HIV. In such critical situations, all efforts are made by the hospital administration to save the patients. Drug sensitive patients often stop taking the drug after some relief. Also, it is necessary to take medicines for tuberculosis for six consecutive months and the patient stops taking the medicines.
