Triple Talaq Konkani Prime 110517│Prudent Media Goa

The Supreme Court has started hearing the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of triple talaq prevalent in the Muslim community. Triple Talaq is a practice in the Muslim community under which a man can divorce his wife by simply saying 'talaq' three times. This case is being heard by a special constitutional bench of 5 judges headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar. The special bench constituted to hear this case is also unique because it includes judges from 5 different religions – Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Parsi and Muslim. Starting the hearing on Thursday, the bench said it would examine whether the practice of triple talaq among Muslims is a fundamental basis of their religion or not. The bench also made it clear that the issue related to polygamy will not be discussed during this hearing. www.prudentmedia.in #PrudentMediaGoa
