Three stabbed, 90 arrested at London’s Notting Hill Carnival; woman in critical condition

LONDON — Three people were stabbed at London’s Notting Hill Carnival, including a 32-year-old woman who is in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police reported on Monday.

The stabbing was one of several violent incidents at the West London festival, which is expected to attract around 1 million attendees on Sunday and Monday.

Two men, aged 29 and 24, were also stabbed during the event on Sunday night, but authorities said the woman’s condition is critical.

As of Sunday night, police had made 90 arrests for various offenses, including assault on an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply, sexual offenses, and robbery. The police also reported that 15 officers were assaulted while on duty.

Despite the festive atmosphere enjoyed by hundreds of thousands, authorities noted that some individuals used the carnival as an opportunity to commit crimes. In response, the Metropolitan Police significantly increased its presence, with 7,000 officers patrolling the event to ensure public safety and address any incidents of violence. — Agencies
