Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-26: Bhuvneshwar Kumar takes over as captain

Bhuvneshwar Kumar for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-26: The mega auction of IPL 2025 is nearing, but before that, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 will start. Uttar Pradesh has announced their squad for this upcoming tournament which includes Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana and Yash Dayal.

Karan Sharma was appointed as UP captain last year, but this time Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be seen holding the captaincy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the team, but Dhruv Jurel will not be part of the team this time, who has left for Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tournament. Talking about captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he was last seen playing in the UP T20 League, where he managed to pick up just 7 wickets in 11 matches. Uttar Pradesh reached the quarter-finals in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, where they lost to Punjab by 5 wickets in the first quarter-final. If we evaluate the UP team, apart from Bhuvneshwar, four players have played international matches for India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2014 to 2024, but Hyderabad released him before the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has taken 181 wickets in 176 IPL matches so far, so many franchises could bid on him. SRH has retained 5 players and spent a total of Rs 75 crores. The players retained are Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen.
