Student researchers succeed in finding 23 carvings in Lanja taluka

Lanja: Student researchers and local youth have succeeded in finding 23 carvings at Birgaon in Lanja taluk.

Milnath Patere, Suchitra Chaudhary and Ved Varshini with the help of Sandesh Veer Yogesh Patere, a local youth, have carved sculptures of aquatic animals, terrestrial animals, bird anthropomorphisms, pictures and animals at Birgaon Pimpal Bowl in the taluka. Some of the newly discovered sculptures are two and a half meters long. Milnath Patere completed his education in Deccan. His team is studying the carvings of Konkan.

Contacting Sudhir Risbood from Ratnagiri, this team has started a study on Katal sculpture in Lanja taluk. Faith tradition is being preserved at the local level regarding these sculptures at Birgaon Pimpal.
