The proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly had to be adjourned for the second day in a row on Thursday due to the issue of special status. The resolution to restore special status to the state was approved by a voice vote in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The opposition opposed this resolution. Meanwhile, there was a scuffle between the BJP MLAs and the marshals who were there for security in the hall.
After the work of the Legislative Assembly started on Thursday morning, the House was rocked by the uproar against the BJP’s resolution. The BJP has said that the resolution to restore special status to Jammu and Kashmir is illegal and has demanded that this resolution be withdrawn. Stating that it has no authority to revoke a resolution passed by the Assembly Speaker, the House itself took the stand that if the resolution is revoked, it will. Amid this uproar, PDP and ‘People’s Conference’ MLAs submitted a copy of the new resolution. It demanded the immediate repeal of Articles 370 and 35A. While Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma was speaking on the resolution, Awami Ittehad Party leader Sheikh Khurshid got into the water.
He held the placard of revoking Article 370 and 35A. This time there was a clash between BJP MLA and Khurshid. BJP MLAs took the placard from Khurshid’s hand and tore it. After Sharma said that we want to end the ongoing drama of the National Conference on special status, the atmosphere became more heated. Slogans were raised from both sides.
