RIYADH — The Sports Boulevard Foundation has received top recognition from ActiveScore, securing two Platinum certifications for its commitment to active travel.
The Sports Boulevard Masterplan obtained the Platinum Communities Certification, while the iconic Global Sports Tower earned a separate Platinum Certification, setting new benchmarks in urban development and sustainable travel.
The Sports Boulevard project, an urban planning initiative covering 135 kilometers, integrates over 4.4 million square meters of green and open spaces and up to 50 sports facilities, all designed to enhance the quality of life in Riyadh.
This project, launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on March 19, 2019, and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, incorporates pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, and horse-riding trails, making it the world’s first recipient of the Platinum ActiveScore Communities Certification.
The Global Sports Tower, a central feature of the project, will be the tallest sports tower globally. It will host over 30 sports facilities, including the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 98 meters, catering to climbers at all skill levels.
The tower will also boast the highest running track in the world—an entirely digitized 250-meter circuit, offering athletes a unique training experience and a breathtaking view of Riyadh. As the first building in Saudi Arabia to receive ActiveScore certification, the Global Sports Tower exemplifies a commitment to sustainable and active urban living.
These Platinum certifications from ActiveScore underscore the Foundation’s dedication to creating healthier, environmentally friendly lifestyles for Riyadh’s residents and visitors. ActiveScore, a global leader in assessing active travel facilities, has certified over 600 projects worldwide, recognizing those that prioritize sustainable travel, occupant health, and environmentally conscious design. — SG
