Ratnagiri : Attacks by wild animals on domestic animals have increased in the district and while looking for prey, leopards have started attacking humans as well as domestic animals. In the period from 2006 to 2024, 2 thousand 908 people had to face the attacks of wild water, loss of agriculture. So far 26 people have been attacked by leopards. About 2 crore 42 lakh 49 thousand rupees compensation has been given to such victims through the forest department.
Forests are being destroyed due to massive felling of trees. As a result, the natural habitat of wild animals is disappearing and these animals have to wander for food and water. The range of these animals has recently increased to human settlements. The number of wild animals such as leopards, wild boars and wild boars is increasing day by day.
Livestock are being attacked by these animals. Farm crops are also being destroyed. These animals are causing great damage to crops. Leopards are also attacking livestock.
During the last 20 years from 2005-06 to the end of 2023-24 November, nearly 2 thousand 247 domestic animals have been attacked and killed by leopards.
Loss of livestock to wild animal attacks has caused great loss to the pastoralists. Therefore, the forest department is giving compensation to these herdsmen. The government has given assistance of Rs. During the same period, wild waters have also caused great damage to crops. 608 farmers have been affected and compensation of Rs 38 lakh 69 thousand has been given.
Leopards, wild boars, pigs have also attacked humans. In that, from 2019-20 to the end of November 2023-24, a total of 26 people were attacked from serious to minor. About 46 lakh 45 thousand has been distributed to such injured beneficiaries. A total of 2,908 beneficiaries have been distributed by the forest department through the government to the aid of 2 crore 42 lakh 49 thousand 380 rupees in the district.
Help was given to the injured in leopard and other wild animal attacks in the district. A total of 16 people were attacked in this year 2019-20. He was given financial assistance of 7 lakh 15 thousand. Financial assistance of 4 lakh 10 thousand was given to 6 persons who were attacked in the year 2020-21.
In the year 2022-23, assistance of 33 lakh 95 thousand was given to 3 persons who were attacked. 2023-24 November this year financial assistance of 1 lakh 25 thousand has been given to a seriously injured person.
