Ratnagiri horticulturists go on hunger strike from 11 – Konkan Today

The farmers of Konkan have never been given loan waivers, outright compensations after independence. Mango, Cashew are the main crops here, the economy of Konkan runs on these crops. However, the government has not done debt relief and Satbara Kora of the mango and cashew growers here. We are warned not to tolerate our cheating by paying small amounts anymore. The horticultural farmers here are going on a chain hunger strike in front of the Ratnagiri Collectorate from December 11 to take a proper decision from the government in the current winter session.
In the last 2022-23 season, only 12 percent of mangoes were produced. We demanded help from the government. But now the second season has come, yet the government has not announced the help. The government should now provide assistance to the farmers in the form of Rs. 15,000 for each section. These major demands and other demands are being unforgivably ignored by the people's representatives and the government. To draw their attention, a chain fast will be held in front of the Collector's office from December 11. Many mango growers including Prakash Salvi, Mukund Joshi, Ramchandra Desai, Mandar Joshi, Jagannath Patil of Konkan Hapus Mango Growers and Growers Sellers Co-operative Society Limited have warned that the government will be responsible for whatever consequences follow.
