Ratnagiri : Gardening is being done in Zilla Parishad schools with the aim of increasing the closeness of students with nature, including fresh vegetables in their diet and eliminating malnutrition.
Teachers, parents, students are cultivating organic vegetables. Gardens have been planted in 2,480 schools in the district.
Under Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyan, the students, parents and teachers of Zilla Parishad schools are creating beautiful gardens through tireless efforts. Radish, Math, Fenugreek, Spinach, Chilli, Okra, Vali pods, Eggplant, Coriander, Tomato are being cultivated in this garden. These vegetables are being used in school nutrition. Therefore, children are getting green, fresh quality vegetables every day.
Due to this activity, students are getting natural farming lessons at an early age and developing interest in agriculture. School management committee, parents, teachers are getting contribution in this activity. Short-term leafy vegetables can be planted in less space, with less labor, and microgreens are also included in the diet by planting microgreens.
Knowledge of natural farming to students at an early age
Zilla Parishad school has created a garden by planting vegetables and fruits in it, and it is included in the nutritional diet. Gardening activities are being implemented everywhere with the aim that children should get closer to nature from their school age, get nutritious food and eliminate malnutrition. Due to insufficient space, some schools are cultivating short-term vegetables (microgreens) and including them in the diet.
Backyards should be created considering the available space in schools. Many schools in the district have created backyard gardens following the suggestion of planting locally produced vegetables in backyards. Teachers, parents, students are cultivating nutritious and micro-vegetables along with various vegetables that are produced in less days and including it in the nutritional diet. – B.M.
