Ratnagiri : 53 crores of water supply scheme works under Jaljeevan Mission in the district remain to be paid. While 75 crores is owed for the work, only 22 crores has been given by the government to the Zilla Parishad Rural Water Supply Department.
However, as the remaining 53 crore rupees are left to come from the government, the question has arisen that how to pay the bills for the works. It is said that the funds of 53 crores have stalled as the government has no funds.
About 400 out of 1,432 water supply schemes have been completed in the district under the Jaljeevan Mission project. Around 150 water supply schemes are nearing completion. So, the proposals of 432 schemes have to be revised. A deadline of September 2024 was given to complete the works. However, it will take more time to implement the plans.
A demand was made from the Rural Water Supply Department of the Zilla Parishad to the government to get 75 crores to pay the bills for the completed works from Jaljeevan. However, a total fund of Rs. 22 crores has been given by the central and state governments of Rs. 11 crores each. However, since the debt for these works is 75 crores, the Zilla Parishad is facing the question of where to get the remaining 53 crores. As the work bills have not yet been issued, many people are troubling the thresholds of the Zilla Parishad for the bills.
Trying to keep quiet
The Rural Water Supply Department has a huge work bill to pay. An attempt is being made to silence the contractors by paying some amount of this bill.
1,600 crores on the plan
1,432 schemes under Jaljeevan are being implemented in the district. This plan is about Rs 1,100 crore. However, as many schemes are facing space constraints, a revised plan will be prepared. Therefore, this plan is likely to go up to 1,600 crores.
