Ratnagiri : Since the implementation of the Code of Conduct for the Assembly General Election till date, the State Excise Department has registered 131 cases against illegal sale of liquor. 110 suspects have been arrested in this.
Hatbhatti village Liquor 3349 Liters, Country Liquor 66.42 Bulk Liters, Foreign Liquor 82.26 Bulk Liters Foreign Liquor for sale in Goa State 9795.97 Bulk Liters, Chemicals 41505 Liters and Illegal Transport of Liquor Total 1 Crore including two vehicles namely Tempo, Motor The goods worth 30 lakh 83 thousand 95 have been seized.
This information was given by Kirti Shedge, Superintendent of State Excise Department. The State Excise Department has a close eye on illegal liquor and 4 teams have been appointed by this department to take strict action against it. From January 2024 till now, good behavior bonds of Rs.16 lakh have been taken from suspects in 28 cases under the Prohibition Act. Since the implementation of the Code of Conduct, passenger and cargo vehicles are being inspected by this department on Mumbai-Goa, Kolhapur-Ratnagiri, Chiplun-Karhad highways. Also, in order to prevent illegal liquor from being transported by train from the state of Goa, in coordination with the Konkan Railway Administration, along with the Railway Police, passengers’ baggage is being checked suddenly. Action against illegal liquor by the State Excise Department will continue.
Blockade on the highway
Vehicles are also being inspected on the highways by State Excise Department through checkpoints and bharari teams. It was said by the department that this campaign will continue till the result of the assembly election is declared very strictly.
