Rajapur: Gardeners hope to get insurance refund

Ratnagiri : A proposal has been submitted to the government through the District Agriculture Department to provide relief to 300 gardeners in Bhu, Khingini, Kotapur, Pendkhale areas of Rajapur taluka who are deprived of mango-cashew crop insurance. Therefore, there is a hope that those gardeners will be compensated for the loss.

The farmers in the land area of the taluka have developed horticulture. Every year these horticulturists are hit by adverse seasonal weather conditions. Like every year, during the period 2023-24, the horticulturists have had to face losses due to unfavorable weather, unseasonal rains. Last year’s season suffered huge losses due to adverse weather conditions. 250 to 300 horticulturists in the area were affected. These farmers had taken insurance under the crop insurance scheme of the government. They expected to get compensation for the damage. A complaint was made to the District Collector. The District Agriculture Department has taken immediate notice of it. The agriculture department has given a letter to the office of the director of agriculture that the horticulturists in the land area should be considered for insurance compensation. After getting the green light from them, the matter will be raised before the District Grievance Redressal Committee. Action will be taken to pay compensation after investigation. Meanwhile, horticulturists in Bhu Mandal were earlier deprived of refunds in a similar manner. It is hoped that they will get benefit.

Board change proposal
The Land Revenue Mandal was attached to the Gowal or Rajapur Mandal; But without discussing with the farmers, the center was connected to Harche Meteorological Station in Lanja Taluk. Local horticulturists say that insurance compensation has been affected this year. In this regard, the Agriculture Department has also immediately prepared a proposal to connect Bhu Mandal with Gowal or Rajapur Mandal as before.

A proposal has been submitted to the government to think positively to provide benefits to those horticulturists who are deprived of insurance dividends. Further action will be taken after the government gives a positive response to it. Shivkumar Sadaphule, District Agriculture Superintendent Officer
