Prathamesh Laghate and Mugdha Vaishampayan-Laghate, who gained fame from Saregamp Little Champ a few years ago, are currently busy making traditional Ganesha idols. The entire Laghate family can be seen engrossed in the idol work. The Laghate family is working to cultivate the 100-year-old tradition of making Ganesha idols, not only keeping in mind the financial gain. Laghatebandhu’s Ganesha idol factory in Aravali has a history of more than 100 years. They are seen as elegant, attractive, classy sculptures. In the pre-independence period (ca.) Bhargava Kashinath alias Anna Laghate started the work of making Ganesha idols. Shantaram Laghate, Sriram Laghate and Prathamesh’s father Umesh Laghate assisted him in this work. Umesh Laghate has been handling the detailed carving of the idol, drawing of the eyes for the last 25 years. Anil Laghate is also pursuing sculpture while maintaining his job. Despite his constant busy schedule while leading the music industry, Prathesh Laghate continues to sculpt as a passion and a pure service to art. This year Mugdha Laghate is seen carrying forward the tradition of Laghate family along with Prathamesh.
