Plot to privatize Ganpatipule, Tarkarli tourist accommodation in Konkan, run for the benefit of MTDC.

Privatization of Tourism Corporation Accommodation Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has floated a tender for privatization of around 30 tourist accommodation in various parts of Maharashtra. These tenders have been placed on the website of the corporation and the impact of this decision will be on the contractual employees. These residences also include Ganapatipule, Tarkarli in Konkan. Taking a serious note of this, Ashok Khamkar, general secretary of the organization said that a black ribbon movement will be held against the privatization by the Tourism Development Employees Association. The recruitment process has not been implemented in the Tourism Development Corporation for many years. The regular employees of the corporation have been retired but no recruitment process has yet taken place, in lieu of which contract employees have been appointed. The government has repeatedly implemented recruitment processes in other corporations. At present around 100 to 120 regular employees are working in Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and around 700 employees are contracted. These employees have been working for about 15 to 30 years. Many of its employees have been members of the Tourist Accommodation Staff Association since 2007. If 30 Niwas are privatized in the state, the problem of contract workers may become serious. Ganapatipule, Tarkarli in Konkan are perennial tourist centers.
