Mumbai : The Election Commission’s decision to ban the use of mobile phones at polling booths in the upcoming assembly elections is not illegal, the High Court on Monday dismissed a plea challenging the Election Commission’s decision.
The Election Commission has banned the use of mobile phones at polling stations on the day of polling on November 20. Ujala Yadav, a lawyer by profession, challenged this decision in the High Court.
The hearing was before the bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Amit Borkar. The Election Commission has the power to devise necessary measures for the smooth conduct of the election process. However, carrying out the election process is a chore and you are seeking permission to show the documents in DigiLocker. Citizens do not have the right to show the documents in the digital locker over the phone. While rejecting the petition, the bench said that the Election Commission’s decision is not illegal.
