An unfortunate incident has come to light in which 10 newborn babies died in a fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Friday night. The fire broke out at the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College Government Hospital in Jhansi. A preliminary estimate is that the accident occurred due to a short-circuit in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a committee has been constituted to conduct a detailed investigation. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences by sharing a post on social media site X over this tragedy.
According to the information that came to light, the incident of fire took place around 10 pm. On getting information about the fire, the fire brigade immediately rushed to the spot. After this, while the work of extinguishing the fire was going on, on the other hand, a rescue operation was undertaken to save the other newborn babies and patients caught in the fire. It has been said by the police that after the fire incident, there was a huge crowd and a stampede like situation in the hospital premises for some time.
A heartbreaking scene was seen outside the Jhansi Government College Hospital on Friday night when the parents of the newborn babies who were caught in the fire broke the fire outside the hospital. A heartbreaking scene outside the hospital of a man crying over the death of his little one saying ‘mera bachcha mara hai’ was enough to convey the emotions of the parents of these infants.
It is estimated that the fire broke out mainly in the inner ward of the intensive care unit of the hospital. It is said that the fire started due to a short circuit and a committee of three high-ranking officials has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The committee has been ordered to submit a report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. All the infants in the outer wards of the intensive care unit have been rescued safely. However, 10 infants in the inner ward have died. Many other patients have also been saved,” Jhansi Collector Avinash Kumar informed.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has shared a post condoling the incident. “This unfortunate incident is heartbreaking and painful. Adityanath said in his post that orders have been given to the concerned administration to carry out rescue operations on war level. A few months ago, in May 2024, a similar incident of fire had also occurred in a children’s hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area. The fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital. These six newborns died in the fire.
