Many obstacles along the Sangameshwar-Devarukh route; Reckless road digging

  • Neglect of construction department
  • Will complain to senior authorities
  • The guide stone was uprooted

Sangameshwar Dt. 12: The state highway leading to Kolhapur via Sangameshwar Devrukh from Mumbai Goa National Highway was in very bad condition during monsoon. Many accidents have occurred due to the big pothole on this road. The road was repaired to some extent after the drivers and passengers complained about it continuously. But with the onset of monsoon, private companies have recklessly started digging the Sangameshwar Devrukh road in many places to lay internet cables. In this digging, the guide stones along the road have been uprooted and the road has become dangerous at places. The public works department at Devrukh is expressing strong displeasure that all these matters are being neglected.

For the past few days, digging work is going on at many places on the Sangameshwar Devrukh road by a private company to lay the internet cable. As the gram panchayats in the villages on the state route have not been taken into confidence or no written permission has been taken from them, the pipes of the tap water scheme of the gram panchayat have broken in some places. The large trenches dug for cable laying in the villages of Lowle, Burambi, Karambale etc. have become dangerous now due to not being buried properly. In some places, an accident-like situation has arisen. The asphalt road dug at Mayurbagh has started to wear out.

This year, a dangerous wall near the stream at Lowle bus stop was newly erected. A private company has made the road dangerous by digging near this protection wall while laying the internet cable. As all the guide stones are uprooted while digging along the road, it is difficult for the vehicles to understand the road at night. Along with this, as proper care is not taken while filling the dug grooves, the soil living on the road is entering the houses and into the eyes of the bikers in the form of dust after the vehicles pass by.

When the Gram Panchayat office bearer of Lowle asked the employees of the cable laying company about this, they very irresponsibly replied, ‘We have taken the permission of the construction department so we don’t need anyone else’s permission’. Sangameshwar-Kolhapur State Road was in a very miserable state during the rainy season. After repeated complaints by motorists, the road was repaired to some extent. But now, as the work of airing the road for laying the cable of a private company is going on, they are complaining in writing to the collector and the secretary of the construction department, said Parashuram Pawar of Pravasi Sangathan.

Between Sangameshwar and Sakharpa, heaps of stones and soil have been placed on the side of the road at many places. As all the materials which are unnecessary during the construction are left on both sides of this road, there is a risk of accidents. Because of all this, the contractor of the Mahavitaran Company has placed iron and cement poles along the road at a total of three places in the limits of Lowale Gram Panchayat near Sangameshwar. Due to this pole, there is no side strip left on the road. Pedestrians have demanded that the Mahavitaran should ask its contractor to lift the pole which is placed down by the road side. The motorists along with the passengers have expressed their displeasure about all these matters being deliberately ignored by the construction department of Devrukh and a statement will also be given to the superintendent engineer of the construction department.
