RIYADH — Saudi Arabia and the United Nations signed a memorandum of additional financial contribution totaling $8 million to mitigate the threat to environment from the Safer oil tanker in Yemen.
The Assistant General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) for Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed Al-Baiz, and the Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Arab Countries at the United Nations Development Program, Dr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, signed the memorandum in Riyadh. This contribution aims to address the ongoing threat posed by the “Safer” oil tanker anchored in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen.
The signing ceremony, which occurred on Thursday, is an extension of KSrelief’s ongoing efforts to tackle the environmental and economic risks associated with the Safer reservoir on the Yemeni coast. The funds will be utilized to neutralize potential dangers and mitigate the impact of this looming threat.
