KSrelief and WFP sign $4.5 million agreement to combat malnutrition in Somalia

NEW YORK — The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the World Food Programme (WFP) signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday to address acute malnutrition in drought-affected areas of Somalia.

This initiative, unveiled on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, aims to support 180,148 individuals with a funding commitment of $4.5 million.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, and WFP Executive Director Cindy Hensley McCain.

Under the terms of the agreement, 1,068.5 metric tons of food will be purchased to fulfill the nutritional needs of 57,301 pregnant and lactating women, as well as 122,847 children under the age of two.

This collaboration highlights Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts through KSrelief, reinforcing its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in some of the world’s most impoverished regions.

The initiative seeks to alleviate the effects of malnutrition and improve the well-being of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Somalia.
