Ratnagiri : Tourism zones will be developed in 15 coastal villages of Konkan to put new concepts of tourism into practice for the protection and conservation of the vast Kandal forest belt along the Konkan coast. Among them, this project has also been started on a pilot basis at Pavas and Nachane in Ratnagiri taluk. The work of this project has also picked up speed in the rest of the villages. While attracting tourists through bird watching, Kandalvan study, Kandalvan boat trips etc. from this village, the local people will be created a means of livelihood through tourism.
With the help of Kandalvan Chamber, Maharashtra State Forest Department and Kandalvan Pratishthan, Kandalvan Co-Management Committees have been established in the coastal villages of Konkan under Kandalvan Protection and Livelihood Generation Scheme. This committee will develop Kandalvan tourism zone which is neglected in the bay area of ββthe coastal village. The project has been started on a pilot basis in Kajli and Gautami river creek areas of Nachane in Ratnagiri taluk. Through this project, tourists will be given information about the protection and conservation of Kandal forest through bird watching, Kandal forest study tour, Kandal forest boat trip. Also, a platform will be provided to the scholars who are studying about the varieties of Kandlana and their usefulness to conduct research in this field. Many activities like Kandal Forest and Marine Biodiversity Introduction Center will be implemented here under Kandalvan Nature Tourism. For those visiting the tourist zone, many activities such as boat trips in Kandalvan, nature walks, Kandalvan bird watching, island accommodation will attract tourists to these new halls. Four villages in Palghar district of Konkan, four in Raigad, five in Sindhudurg district and two villages in Ratnagiri district are included in this. Also, this project has been implemented in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai in Thane district.
1,575 hectares of Kandal forest reserve in Konkan
Sindhudurg, Raigad, Thane on the Konkan coast and 1,575 hectares of Kandal forest in the Andheri-Borivali district of Mumbai were declared as ‘reserve areas’. This includes 374.5 hectares in Sindhudurg district, 392 hectares in Raigad, 182.9 hectares in Borivali, 70 hectares in Andheri and 554.7 hectares in Thane. This area is proposed to be given the status of reserve area. Kandalvan tourism area will be created while creating means of livelihood through tourism in this area.
