*Savantwadi, D-08:-* The annual fair of Sri Devi Mauli at Sonurli, famous for Lotangana in Sawantwadi taluka, will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16.
Annual fairs in Sindhudurg district begin during Kartiki Ekadashi, Tripuri Full Moon. The fair of Devi Mauli at Sonurli is famous as the biggest of these. The majesty of the goddess has reached across the seas and every year thousands of devotees bow down at Mauli’s feet as a goddess who takes vows and runs to the call of devotees. Lotangana is vowed to the goddess to solve our problems. It is paid on the night of the fair. The vowed women perform this vow by circumambulating the temple standing, while the men perform the vow by prostrating on the ground.
Devotees flock to watch the Lotangan program. Devotees are satisfied with the electric lighting around the temple of the goddess, the celebration of lotangana and the blissful sight of the goddess. Four to five thousand devotees prostrate themselves every year. In view of the huge crowd during the fair, proper police arrangements are also maintained by the police administration. Proper planning is done by the devasthan committee for easy darshan of the devotees.
