Increasing preference of tourists for dried fish in Konkan

Ratnagiri : Tourists who come with their families to Ratnagiri district prefer to buy dried fish here. Therefore, a daily turnover of lakhs of rupees is being made through the buying and selling of dry fish (Fish Market). Some tourist places are famous for their innovative products and food, fruits.

Tourists necessarily buy those items. Similarly, the tourists who come to Ratnagiri district to visit the beach and the tourist spot here are preferring to buy dried fish. Dry fish is available year round. Dried fish is available for sale in major towns and beaches of Ratnagiri district.

Large quantities of vaktia, bombil, shrimp paste, succut are purchased at the port. As dried fish lasts for several days, it is like a competition to stock enough for the maximum number of days. Tourists who are at a loss as to what to take on their return journey are particularly interested in buying dried fish. Due to tourists coming to Guhagar, Dapoli, Ratnagiri Chiplun, Khed, the turnover has gone into crores this year. Dried fish is easily available in any coastal village.

Compared to other places, dried fish is available here at a good quality and at a moderate price. Keeping in view the increasing demand for dried fish, some women vendors have set up shops on the main road itself. Women selling dried fish in baskets are seen in Chiplun town. If the price is slightly increased, good fish can be obtained at a moderate price. Sellers say that when one customer makes a purchase, others with him also buy, so that sometimes thousands of goods are sold out in a few minutes.
