In ‘these’ 18 districts, gold jewelery will no longer be sold without hallmarking

New Delhi : Gold jewelery is still being sold in many places in the country without hallmarking. In this regard, the government has announced that now gold jewelery will not be sold without hallmarking in 18 more districts of different states.

Meanwhile, the hallmarking rule has come into effect from 23 June 2021. So far nearly 40 crore gold ornaments have been hallmarked.

The government is implementing this in different phases in different parts of the country. The Government of India is now implementing hallmarking rules on jewelery to protect people from adulterated gold jewelery in various parts of the country. However, this rule was made in the country only on 23 June 2021. But, it is being implemented in a phased manner in various districts.

The government has announced its implementation in 18 districts on Thursday. They are in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Also, there are now 362 districts in the country where jewelery and gold artefacts without hallmarking will not be sold in jewelery shops.

The number of registrar jewelers increased
The government is now working on the registration of jewelers in the country. This is why the number of registrar jewelers in the country has increased more than before. Earlier the number of registrar jewelers was only 34,647, now it has increased to 1,94,039. Besides, the number of hallmarking centers has also increased from 945 to 1,622.
