Ratnagiri : The Department of Industries, Energy, Labor and Mines has issued a government circular regarding giving leave to voters on polling day so that all voters can exercise their right to vote properly in the Assembly General Election. In exceptional circumstances, if it is not possible to give full day leave to workers, officers, employees, etc., the polling station workers may be given a concession of at least two hours in lieu of leave to exercise their right to vote. Assistant Labor Commissioner Sandesh Ayre has informed that in any case, the concerned establishments will have to ensure that the voters get at least two hours concession for voting.
Every person engaged in any profession, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote in the State Assembly elections shall be given a holiday on the day of polling, the notification said. This holiday will be applicable to all industrial groups, corporations, companies and institutions, industrial undertakings or other establishments etc. coming under the Industries Department.
No deduction shall be made in the pay of any such person on account of a sanctioned holiday and if such person is employed on the basis that he will not receive normal pay for such day, he shall be paid for such day the wages he would have drawn had the holiday not been granted to him. If an employer contravenes the provisions of the sub-section, such employer shall be liable to punishment as per the rules of the Election Commission.
This section shall not apply to any voter whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in connection with the employment in which he is engaged.
In exceptional circumstances, if it is not possible to give full day leave to workers, officers, employees, etc., workers in the polling area may be given a concession of at least two hours instead of leave to exercise their right to vote. However, it will be necessary to take prior permission of the concerned Collector and District Election Officer. In any case, the concerned establishments will have to ensure that the voters get at least two hours concession for voting.
