GAMR unveils 5 qualitative initiatives to shape media’s future

Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH The General Authority of Media Regulation (GAMR) unveiled five new qualitative initiatives that aimed to shape the future of media. The authority is working on them as part of its new strategy through which it aims to develop the sector, including the preparation and design of an integrated center that brings together media-related activities.

According to GAMR, the initiatives include implementing new standards to protect national values, developing oversight of broadcasting content via the Internet and social media, in addition to supporting the development of national media establishments and directing their media investments towards areas with the highest impact.

The initiatives include facilitating the procedures for issuing media licenses and creating new licenses that keep pace with digital development in the field of media, in addition to issuing new regulations to establish media centers and private economic centers and attract international media companies.

The authority said that the fifth initiative is to prepare and design an integrated center that brings together activities related to the media sector in coordination with the Ministry of Investment to facilitate the investors’ journey. It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers in September this year approved the new regulation governing GAMR. According to this, the authority has become the body entrusted with the development, regulation and supervision of the entire media sector, including support for its infrastructure, upgrading the infrastructure and the media content, and developing the contribution of the media economy to the GDP.

This contributes to the advancement of the media sector to be pioneering and responsible in providing valuable content that is transparent and reliable to keep pace with the ambitious goals of the Saudi Vision 2030
