The forest department will once again undertake a campaign to catch monkeys and apes, which are becoming a nuisance for agriculture and horticulture in the district, and release them in the sanctuary from October 15. For this, a proposal of expenditure of 35 lakhs has been sent to the District Planning Board from the Forest Department. This year, the campaign which was carried out during the summer was not very effective. Therefore, it has now been decided to carry out a monkey catching campaign in the season before fruit bearing in general. Due to the increasing nuisance of monkeys in the district, the farmers are suffering huge financial losses. The district produces large amounts of mango and cashew along with other fruits. Along with this, vegetable and paddy cultivation is done in Konkan. But for the last few years, orchards and agricultural crops are being damaged by monkeys. So the farmer has become desperate.www.konkantoday.com
