Saudi Gazette report

BAKU Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman is leading Saudi Arabia’s delegation participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), currently being held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. The conference, under the theme “In Solidarity for a Green World,” began on Monday and will continue until November 22.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in the UN Climate Change Conference comes within its efforts to enhance global efforts to confront the challenges of climate change, based on a comprehensive and practical vision aimed at reducing emissions through the use of a wide range of technologies.

This approach is part of the Kingdom’s pioneering initiatives in the environmental field, such as the “Saudi Green Initiative” and the “Middle East Green Initiative”, which aim to reduce and manage emissions, promote the use of renewable energy, and increase vegetation cover, contributing to achieving the sustainable development goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

These initiatives focus on adopting balanced and comprehensive policies that take into account countries’ historical responsibilities for emissions, and support countries’ right to sustainable development. Through these policies, Saudi Arabia emphasizes the importance of energy security as a key element for achieving economic growth and sustainability. The Kingdom also seeks to ensure that clean energy investments include all renewable and traditional resources, taking into account the sovereign right of countries to exploit their natural resources
