A Muslim couple filed an affidavit in the High Court on Thursday pointing out the bullying of BJP MLA Nitesh Rane from Sindhudurg district. Despite the court order, Nitesh Rane’s goons pelted stones at the village house in Sindhudurga. The Muslim couple said in an affidavit that they did not want to go to the village due to their fear. Taking serious note of this, the court decided to hold further hearing on 6th September.* On 19th January 2024, while coming to Mumbai by Madgaon Express from Kankavali, Asif Sheikh and his family were threatened by a group of youths for saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Meanwhile, tea was thrown on Asif’s daughter’s face. Asif had filed a complaint in Panvel police station in this matter. Later that complaint was filed in Kankavali police station due to political pressure. Further, they were beaten up and stones were thrown at the house. Asif Sheikh and his wife Jasmin Sheikh pointed out that the police acted biased in the investigation even after this incident. An appeal has been sought in the High Court through Gautam Kanchanpurkar. Their petition was heard on Thursday before a bench of Justice Revathi Mohite-Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan. Asif Sheikh filed an affidavit as per the order given by the bench in the previous hearing and pointed out that Nitesh Rane and his goons were pelting stones and threatening the house. Some people threw stones at the house. Not only this, two days later on August 4, an unknown person entered the house in Chembur. The police detained him. Sheikh’s family was going to the village for the period of August 8 to 11. The court had ordered police protection to go to the village, but the villagers advised them not to come to the village due to the situation there. Due to Nitesh Rane’s terror, going to the village has become undesirable.* The entire sequence of events is serious; Court calls for footage* The court took cognizance of the affidavit and opined that the entire incident was serious and directed the police to look into it and produce the CCTV footage of Kankavli police station on January 25. Public prosecutor Prajakta Shinde sought time for this. Accordingly, the bench adjourned the next hearing for a week.
