Due to the decision of the court, action will be taken against the illegal constructions in CRZ.

Environment experts say that the Central Government’s 2019 circular regarding permission for construction in the CRZ area has been quashed by the Bombay High Court and this will continue the provisions beneficial to mangroves, wetlands and special protection for the fishing community. Dayanand Stalin, a petitioner and an activist of Vanshakti Sanstha, has said that because of the court’s decision, action will have to be taken against the buildings that are currently standing in the CRZ area but are illegal. The Ministry had issued a circular in 2019. However, Van Shakti Sanstha had filed a Public Interest Litigation in Bombay High Court stating that many of the provisions in this circular are taking away protection instead of working to protect the environment. www.konkantoday.com
