The earlier allocation of land area for irrigation wells under employment guarantee scheme was preventing many beneficiaries from taking advantage of irrigation wells. But the government has brought relaxation in land areas. At the same time, the subsidy has also been doubled. Therefore, the way has been cleared for the beneficiaries who wish to avail the benefits of irrigation wells under the employment guarantee scheme. Due to the increased beneficiaries, the irrigation sector will also increase tremendously.
In order to increase the irrigated area, the government is providing subsidy for irrigation wells to the beneficiary farmers under the employment guarantee scheme with the aim of providing abundant water for agriculture to the maximum number of farmers. Due to this scheme, while the farmer is getting subsidy for well digging, it is also providing employment. But in order to benefit from the well, the concerned farmer was required to have at least one and a half acre area on the Satbara section. However, many farmers did not have the Satbara Pratra with one and a half acres of contiguous area, despite wanting to take advantage of the irrigation wells, they could not take advantage of the wells. Keeping this problem of farmers in mind, the government has relaxed the area earmarked earlier for irrigation wells.
