Commerce Ministry recalls defective ANKER power banks

RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Commerce announced the recall of portable and magnetic batteries from ANKER products due to the possibility of their temperature rising, which may lead to the risk of a fire.

The ministry called for stopping the use of power bank models such as A1642, A1647, A1652 and storing the battery in a safe place, and contacting the company to return the product and refund the purchase amount.

The Chinese electronic accessories company Anker had withdrawn three models of external batteries (Power Bank) compatible with iPhone devices from the markets, due to a manufacturing defect that leads to fires as a result of the high temperature of the batteries.

The company explained that these withdrawn devices are compatible with the MagSafe technology dedicated to the iPhone, and included models A1642 and A1652 from the Anker 334 MagGo model, and model A1647 from the Anker power bank model.

It pointed out that the cause of the defect is the malfunction of the lithium-ion batteries used in these portable chargers, as their high temperature leads to melting of plastic parts, smoke emission, and fires in the devices connected to them during the charging process.

It also recommended that users of these electronic accessories stop using them immediately and store them in safe places to avoid accidents that may cause significant damage to iPhone devices or cause outbreak of fires.
