Chonga is a traditional dish of Marathi Muslims in Vasai. Marathi Muslims. Traditional recipe of Vasai Marathi Muslim Just as people of different castes live together in India, similarly in Vasai also people of different castes have lived together for hundreds of years, that is why Vasai is also called 'Small India'. At my friend Ramiz's house in Bolinj today, I tried making Chonga, a staple food of the local Teli community, on the occasion of Eid and learned more about this local Muslim community. We are grateful to the Shaikh family who live in a very playful and friendly environment and have extended the hospitality to us.
