Chiplun : On the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, Sawarde Market, first the road, then the flyover and finally the road itself has been approved and now it has been completed. But now the villagers have to cross the road with their lives in hand. This has now become a permanent problem for the villagers of Sawarde area.
There are educational institutes, medical college and Valawalkar hospital in Sawarde area. Thousands of villagers are coming and going in this area every day. Three to four thousand students come here for education. Also, the number of villagers alighting at the bus station in Sawarde and going to rural areas from there is large. The villagers had demanded that a flyover should be built at this place first while making the road four-lane. Initially the flyover was approved. Later it was canceled and it was divided into four categories. A flyover has been constructed at Kondmala and Wahal Phata. Women in Kondmala area have to beg for water.
The women of this area cross the road carrying water on their heads. The flyover at Wahal Phata was damaged a few days ago. The contractor had tarred the worn area to hide his shoddy work. These problems are solved after taking measures.
So the villagers did not take a very aggressive stance. However, it was revealed on that occasion that no one has any control over the inferior work of the contractor. Now there is a big problem of road crossing in Sawarde market. While crossing the road in the market, one has to cross two lanes. Vehicles are running at high speed on the roads here. So there is danger of accident here. If there was a flyover on the road in the market place, the vehicles going towards Ratnagiri would have crossed the flyover faster and the villagers would have been able to cross the road without hindrance.
Vehicle parking is a serious problem
There is not enough space available to park private vehicles in Sawarde market. Had the flyover been constructed, space would have been available to park the vehicles. At present, passengers have to stand on the side of the road on both sides and wait for the vehicles. In some places, unauthorized handcarts have been placed on the divider.
A weekly market is held on Sundays in Sawarde Market. Senior citizens also come here for shopping. They also suffer while crossing the road. There has been no accident here yet. If measures are not taken in the future, there is a risk of accidents here. – Sanjay Chavan, villager, Yegaon
