*Ratnagiri, Dt. 19 (Jimaka)- Taluka Legal Services Committee, Lawyers Association Chiplun and S.P.M. A Legal Literacy Camp was organized today in association with English Medium School, Chiplun. While explaining the importance of legal literacy camp to the present students, District Judge Dr. Anita Nevse gave a thorough guidance to the students on how their role should be and how they should strive towards their academic development while studying in school.
Education is the foundation of development. For the overall development of the students, it is necessary for the school management to provide them with a conducive environment and up-to-date educational facilities. In the current situation, the crime of sexual harassment in India is on the rise. According to the statistics of the National Crime Records Bureau, 24 percent of the total number of children in India are being sexually abused and the majority of the abuses are committed by close or trusted adults. Regarding the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act 2012, an all-inclusive law to protect children from crimes like sexual harassment and pornography, Dr. Nevse gave important information to the attendees.
The said law came into existence to protect children from sexual harassment, molestation, obscenity, crime, abuse, rape and for serious crimes, according to the amended provision of the said law, under Section 6, there is a provision of life imprisonment or death penalty for the perpetrator of torture. As per the provisions of the law, the name of the victim boy or girl is not disclosed. To register a complaint, women police officers can go to the victim's home in plain clothes and register her complaint. Also, care is taken in the court that the plaintiff and the accused will not come face to face during the hearing of the case. In order to prevent incidents of sexual abuse and to protect children, school management needs to be aware. The children of today are the intelligent citizens of tomorrow, so to create a healthy society, it is necessary to impart good morals to the students through school. Child protection is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure the physical, mental and intellectual development of students and to protect them from sexual abuse. The school management has to play an important role in getting justice for the victimized student who has been sexually assaulted.
In this program, the students were given an oath about disciplined behavior and were given an understanding about the proper use of mobile phones.
