There is a good news for sugarcane farmers and sugar millers. The central government has allowed the production of ethanol from sugarcane juice and molasses. The decision will allow sugar factories to use up to 17 lakh tonnes of sugar for ethanol production. This decision is a relief to the sugar millers.
Raju Shetty, head of Swabhimani Shetkar Sahathana, has welcomed the permission given by the central government for the production of ethanol. Banning the production of ethanol was a wrong decision. There is a need for nations around the world to come together and promote the use of alternative fuels. Raju Shetty said that ethanol is an alternative to fossil fuels. Meanwhile, the government has imposed a condition that up to 17 lakh tonnes of sugar should be used for ethanol production. Raju Shetty has demanded that this condition should be increased to 35 lakh tonnes. Shetty said that the production of sugar will be as per requirement.
Currently, there has been a huge increase in the price of sugar in the country. Because the decline in sugarcane production is affecting prices.
