New Delhi, 27 : Karde village in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district has been awarded the Best Tourism Village Award 2024 in the Agritourism category. The prestigious award was announced by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India on the occasion of World Tourism Day. Out of 991 villages from 30 States and Union Territories that participated in the competition, 36 villages were selected as winners in eight different categories. Karde village was recognized for its efforts to promote agritourism, which contributes significantly to the local economy. Karde, a village located on the coast of Ratnagiri, attracts tourists with its clean beaches, white sand and picturesque surroundings. The award is a matter of pride for Maharashtra and is expected to boost the tourism development of the state. Launched in 2023, the objective of the competition is to promote rural tourism and recognize the efforts of villages that have made significant contributions to the development of tourism in their areas. The winners have been selected based on their initiatives in areas such as cultural and natural heritage conservation, community-based tourism and sustainable development. Karde village was selected for its innovative approaches to agri-tourism, women empowerment and sustainable development. The village has implemented various activities to promote eco-tourism including utilization of natural resources, water management and waste management. The award is given in recognition of the village’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism and its commitment to preserving the local environment and culture.
