Arab League reiterates support for Brazilian initiative to establish Global Alliance against hunger, poverty

The Arab League reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Brazilian initiative to establish a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, emphasizing the critical importance of addressing these challenges, which remain among the most pressing global issues of our time.
This statement was delivered by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, during a session titled “Initiative to Combat Poverty and Hunger” held as part of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In his remarks, Aboul Gheit highlighted the deep interconnection between hunger and poverty, noting that the most vulnerable populations bear their brunt most acutely. He commended the efforts of the Global Alliance to address these challenges in the Arab region, acknowledging the importance of collective action to achieve shared goals.
The Secretary-General further emphasized the challenges faced by communities under occupation, stating: “Peoples living under occupation are deprived of opportunities to join our collective struggle or achieve meaningful progress, as occupation remains a primary driver of poverty. For instance, in Palestine, this situation is both unacceptable and condemnable and cannot be allowed to persist.
