JSW Infrastructure Limited, a JSW group company based in Jaigad in Ratnagiri taluka, on Monday approved a capital investment of Rs 2.359 crore for capacity expansion of Jaigad and Dharamtar ports on the Maharashtra coast. Therefore, the Dingni-Jaigarh railway line, which has been stalled for many years, is likely to get a boost. Currently the cargo handling capacity is 170 million metric tonnes. The company plans to increase this to 400 million tonnes per annum by FY2030. This capacity expansion has been undertaken as a part of it. The proposed capital investment is expected to increase the capacity by 36 million tonnes per annum and the capacity of Jaigad port is expected to increase by 15 million tonnes and the capacity of Dharamtar port by 21 million tonnes per annum. The expansion plan includes mechanical civil and electrical works for the new thrust. It also includes provision of additional infrastructure such as rail sidings for Jaigarh Port to promote third-party cargo movement. According to the company in a statement, the total capacity of Jaigad port in Visarapashta will increase to 70 million metric tons from the current 55 million metric tons per annum and the capacity of Dharamtar port will increase from the current 34 million metric tons per annum to 55 million metric tons. . The construction of the proposed expansion plan for both the ports is expected to be completed by March 2027. The land acquisition of Dingani-Jaigarh railway line has been completed and construction has started to some extent. After this the work got stopped due to some reason now it is expected that the work of the route will go ahead with JSW funding.
