The incident took place on Friday when a Tata Sumo collided with the bike of a young man who was going towards Ratnagiri from Ganpatipule at Basani-Nagzari junction, killing the bike rider on the spot. After the accident, the sumo driver was fleeing from the spot when the local citizens chased him and caught him. Meanwhile, the police informed that a young woman sitting on the back of the two-wheeler was slightly injured in the accident. Saurabh Madhukar Kajrekar (age 25, resident of Dongrewadi-Pali, Ratnagiri) had gone to Ganapatipule with his girlfriend on Thursday afternoon. While returning from Ganpatipule, his bike met with an accident at Basani. He was coming towards Ratnagiri. According to the police, Saurabh was coming towards Ratnagiri from Ganpatipule on Friday afternoon. His friend Vrishali Jagdish Dhadve (age 21, resident Umre-Chanderai) was sitting behind his bike. The speeding Tata Sumo collided with Saurabh’s bike. Both fell on the road. Some young men from Devgad were going to Ganpatipule with the Tata Sumo. At the turn at Basani-Nagzari, the speeding Sumo hit Saurabh’s bike coming towards Ratnagiri. Both Saurabh and Vrishali fell on the road. Saurabh, who was traveling on a bike, had a helmet on his head. But the impact was so big that the helmet on Saurabh’s head flew like a 25 feet long ball and his bike flew off the road and flew to the side of the road. The injured Vrishali was running for help. Hearing this sound, the local villagers rushed towards the accident. After the accident at Basni-Nagzari, both Saurabh and Vrishali collapsed on the road. Saurabh fell on the road with serious head injuries. Blood was literally flowing on the road while Vrishali was slightly injured. Saurabh was seriously injured in this accident. He was immediately shifted to the district hospital by the local villagers. But he died before treatment. The two-wheeler has been destroyed in this accident. After this accident, the Sumo driver fled from the spot. From Ganapatipule, Sumo Susat had set off at high speed. Sumo from Devgad was chased by local villagers. There were 5 to 6 youths in this car. They were on their way to Ganpatipule. The rural police have detained a sumo driver Ketan Navalkonde (age 20, resident of Devgad) in connection with this accident.
