A one-day workshop on foster care scheme was held at Ratnagiri, dt. 24 (Jimaka): A one-day workshop on foster care scheme through District Women and Child Development Department was concluded under the chairmanship of District Women and Child Development Officer Shrikant Hawle.

This workshop was attended by District Child Protection Officer, Samrudhi Ajay Veer, Child Welfare Committee Member Shirish Damle, Adv. Rajni Sardesai, Adv. Priya Lowlekar, Dr. Sneha Pilankar and Niyati Trivedi from Catalyst for Social Auction, Mumbai and Rini Bhargava from UNICEF were present as workshop trainers. In the workshop, thoughts were brainstormed about how the benefit of the scheme of foster care can be given to children in various government and private institutions as well as orphans and needy children outside the institution. The purpose of the workshop is to prepare an action plan for the district regarding foster care and the measures needed to effectively implement the foster care service plan in the district, necessary support, media of public awareness in the community were discussed. The workshop was well guided by Neeti Trivedi of Catalyst for Social Auction, Mumbai and Rini Bhargava of UNICEF on Foster Care. Foster care is a temporary arrangement for raising children and is different from the adoption process. In this, the parents can accept the responsibility of taking care of the child on a temporary basis by the order of the Child Welfare Committee. He said that orphans and destitute children are rehabilitated in families through this foster care scheme. District Child Protection Officer Mrs. Veer also gave guidance on this occasion. In this workshop, representatives of organizations working for orphans and needy children in the district and employees of the Observatory/Children’s Home, employees of the District Child Protection Unit, Child Line, Child Development Project (Civil) employees, protection officers etc. were present. Also, all the officers and employees of the District Women and Child Development Department attended the workshop. The program was moderated by Vikram Kanwade, vote of thanks was given by Sunil Kamble, Superintendent of Maher Sanstha. 000
