I have known Uday Samant since 1992-93, my son Mahesh Samant met him in college, he was a year ahead of Mahesh at that time. But by keeping the name Samant, one obviously felt a closeness to it and this closeness has not diminished till date. He has a large circle of friends because he gets along well with everyone, laughs and talks.
I was in a government job. That's why I was not at home in the afternoon. Some time in the afternoon, his friend also comes with Mahesh. Sometimes Uday Samant was also with him. A person who lives in harmony with everyone and does not discriminate between rich and poor and helps everyone in their difficulties. Sometimes I used to prepare fish food for Mahesh.
Once on the day of Bhaubije (he was not an MLA at that time) politics started. Mahesh and his friend Kedar Patwardhan came to us. My sisters also came to me. At that time I was having mutton dinner.
I filled a dish of Diwali snacks in front of Uday Samant and Kedar Patwardhan but they said, we don't want this. Now give us the scent of your home. Then I gave them mutton and bread. Such a difficult person who used to get along with everyone, at that time when there was some political issue, I told him, you will become a minister, my sister told him, if you become a minister then give a job to our son. When he became MLA, he made my son Mahesh Samant his government PA. So was appointed.
A lot of people were telling me not to keep them here. He won't be able to work. But I was sure about Uday Samant that he would take care of Mahesh, till date he has treated him like his younger brother. Since then Mahesh has done the work of Uday Samant and his brother Kiran Samant with priority and dedication. Although Mahesh was at home for six months due to illness, she took care of his needs by giving him money every month. And yet they steadfastly support him in his difficulties. If not for my son, then if any of his employees or relatives fall ill, they help with a generous hand. They help someone for education, marriage. He and his brother Kiran Samant have also paid for my son's marriage. Who would do that these days? For us they are angels.
His brother and parents also help everyone. I sometimes talk to his mother on the phone. Talks very lovingly, asks. Their origins are the descendants of feudal lords.
Uday Samant does not speak bad about anyone, his specialty is to come out of any difficult situation without hurting anyone. Words are not enough to talk and write about them.
