Alibaug: 26.7 km from Indapur to Vadpale of Mumbai-Goa National Highway. A case of culpable homicide has been registered in Mangaon Police Station against the contractor of this work due to the poor quality of the four-lane highway work of Antar. Project Coordinator Engineer Sujit Sadanand Kawle has been arrested. Chetak Enterprises Limited (Mr. Chetak Appco (JV)) (Contractor), 501, Naman Centre, C-31, G Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra (West), Mumbai-51 Managing Director Hukmichand Jain, General Manager Awadhesh Project Engineer, National Highways had lodged a complaint against Kumar Singh, Project Co-ordinating Engineer Sujit Sadanand Kawle and other responsible persons of the company. Accordingly, a case has been registered at Mangaon Police Station under Section 105, 125 (a) (b) and 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code. The company started widening and modernizing the highway. But they didn’t complete the work within the time frame and did substandard work. Due to substandard work and incomplete work place, the highway got potholes. The safety measures required at the completion of the work included thermoplastic paint (white stripes), cat eyes, delineators, information for motorists, installation of notice boards, closure of unauthorized road dividers. It didn’t work. Due to this, accidents started happening on this highway. A total of 170 motor accidents occurred since 2020. A total of 97 passengers died in it. 208 passengers were injured. Similarly, the vehicle has been damaged. Therefore, a case of manslaughter has been registered against this contractor company. Further investigations are being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Beldar under the guidance of Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge.
