A big relief to Ratnagiri NP from POP Ganesha idol ban

Ratnagiri Nagar Parishad was issued a notice on the recent Ganeshotsav and the ban on POP idols. And on behalf of the city council Adv. Rakesh Bhatkar argued. Although the Bombay High Court has now given relief in a temporary form, it has directed to strictly implement it from next year. Also, the Bombay High Court bench has indicated that criminal action will be taken against the manufacturer of POP Ganesha idols under the Pollution Act. But this year, the factories making POP Ganesha idols have got a relief. The Central Pollution Control Board had on May 12, 2020 banned the manufacture and use of POP Ganesha idols. Also, such regulations were made to force the use and making of clay Ganapati. In accordance with this, the Maharashtra Pollution Board had issued several directives to the Municipal Corporation as well as the Municipal Corporation. That directive was not followed. Because of this, Rohit Joshi, a resident of Thane, along with Rajendra Jadhav, a resident of Sangameshwar, Ratnagiri, filed a Public Interest Litigation before the Bombay High Court. In this petition, it was demanded that POP idols should be banned and such instructions should be given to the municipalities as well as the Municipal Corporation and the Government of Maharashtra. A notice of the matter was also issued to the Ratnagiri Municipal Council. www.konkantoday.com
