Chiplun : District Magistrate here Akash Ligade has been announced as State Level Outstanding Voter Registration Award 2024 of Election Commission. Taking note of the continuous work done for voter registration in Chiplun Assembly Constituency, District Magistrate Ligade has been selected for the State Level Outstanding Registration Award from 75 Assembly Constituencies of Konkan Division.
On the basis of remarkable and innovative performance in the state during the year 2023-24 in relation to election issues, the Election Commission has selected various department-wise officials for distribution of prizes and honors for the sake of national voters. In this, Provincial Officer Akash Ligade from Chiplun Sangameshwar Assembly Constituency has been selected for the Outstanding Voter Registration Award.
336 BLOs and officials worked on voter registration under the guidance of Provincial Commissioner Ligade. There were nearly 2 lakh 89 thousand voters in Chiplun constituency. But the number of dead voters was also large. It also included the voters who migrated from the village to other places. In order to update the voter list, a survey was conducted through house-to-house visits through BLOs.
In this survey, names of dead and migrated voters were omitted after obtaining complete information of the voters. Apart from this, those who are not registered as voters were registered. Awareness camps were conducted in colleges of the constituency to increase voter registration. For the Katkari community, voters were registered by holding camps in their settlements.
Awareness was created by contacting various boards. As a result of this, it helped to increase the registration of 9 to 10 thousand voters. Due to the excellent performance of all the participants, it helped to update the electoral roll. Provincial Officer Aakash Ligade explained that after the announcement of the elections, he is actually focusing on increasing the voting percentage.
