Four cruise terminals for tourism development of Konkan

Ratnagiri includes Jaigad, Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg port

Ratnagiri : From the point of view of tourism development in the natural beauty of Konkan, cruise terminals will be set up at four places in Konkan for foreign ships so that international tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of Konkan. This also includes Ratnagiri. A proposal in this regard was submitted by the Maritime Board on behalf of the Maharashtra Maritime Board to the Ministry of Interstate Water Transport. It has been given preliminary approval.

Thousands of local and foreign tourists visit Konkan every year. However, the number of domestic tourists is more in it. The aim behind the cruise terminal is to attract more and more international tourists to Konkan. Maritime Boda has put forward this proposal while emphasizing that the importance of Konkan in terms of tourism should also increase like that of Goa. Maritime Board aims to give tourists a unique view of the nature of Konkan, vast ocean beaches, daily life in Konkan, mango-cashew orchards of coconut trees. Accordingly, the plan of this proposal will be prepared. Now the Maritime Board's proposals will be scrutinized by the Union Ministry.

Against this backdrop, a team of officials will soon visit the potential sites in the proposal in Konkan to scrutinize the board's proposal. After that, a final report will be prepared regarding stopping the cruises at the respective places. In this, a cruise terminal is proposed at Jaigad, Sindhudurg, Vijaydurg in Ratnagiri and Dighi in Raigad district. Sindhudurg and Vijaydurg will be geographically tested and a decision will be taken regarding setting up a cruise terminal. There is no jetty available for cruises at these two places, so an alternative is proposed to dock the cruises far out in the sea and bring the tourists ashore by small boats.

Jaigarh port proposed
This initiative of Maharashtra Marine Board is included in the Sagaramala scheme. For this, a scheme of about 300 crore rupees has been proposed by Maritime Board at Jaigad in Ratnagiri. Sources said that a location in Jaigad port in Ratnagiri district will be decided. For this activity, 50 percent financial assistance will be received from the Center under the Sagarmala project.
