Leaders Online Desk: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today (27) constituted a three-member committee to oversee the affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). According to the Indian Olympic Association, Bhupendra Singh Bajwa has been appointed chairman and MM Somaiya and Manjusha Kanwar have been appointed members of the three-member committee.
The committee was formed by the Indian Olympic Association as per the instructions of the Sports Ministry after the suspension of the new organization of WFI. This committee will oversee various functions and activities of WFI. This includes selection of players, sending names of players to international tournaments, organizing sporting events, supervision and management of bank accounts.
As of early 2023, the WFI is in turmoil. The situation deteriorated after several prominent wrestlers protested against then president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. After heated politics over this, the central government hastily decided to dissolve the wrestling federation. The Sports Ministry announced this on Sunday (24th).
