Ratnagiri: Since the district may soon face water shortage in view of low rainfall, instructions have been given to submit the shortage action plan of each taluka to the Zilla Parishad Rural Water Supply Department before December.
So far, plans for only two talukas, Lanja and Sangameshwar, have been submitted. There are indications that the district's integrated water scarcity action plan will be stalled as no scarcity meetings have been held in the remaining taluks.
There was heavy rain in the district at the end of September. Instead of the cold subsiding in November, the heat of October persists even after mid-December. Experts predict that the district will soon face water shortage due to the current high temperatures. Water shortage has started in two villages of Chiplun taluka. The deficiency action plan for this taluk has not been prepared yet. At the same time, an action plan for water shortage has not been prepared for Mandangarh, Dapoli, Khed, Guhagar and Ratnagiri talukas. Since plans for only two talukas have come out, questions are being raised as to how the Rural Water Supply Department will prepare the district's shortage action plan.
Neglect at taluka level
Although water schemes have been implemented through aquatic life, the possibility of water scarcity cannot be ruled out if water sources dry up. Therefore, there is a need to prepare an action plan quickly and work on time; But it is being ignored at the taluka level.
Plan amount will increase
Last year, the water crisis action plan in the district was half completed. Last year the reduction plan was approved in late February. A plan worth Rs 5 crore 73 lakh was prepared and approved. Due to water crisis starting soon this year, there is a possibility of increase in the amount of water scarcity scheme.
