Professor Chuck Yoo highlights how AI reshapes jobs and drives demand for sustainable solutions

RIYADH — Prof. Chuck Yoo, a prominent computer scientist at Korea University, highlighted that artificial intelligence is disrupting job markets considerably and he promotes greener and more environmentally friendly practices in AI development.

Speaking during an interview on the GAIN Podcast, Prof. Yoo underlined the fast evolution of AI, entailing challenges as well as opportunities.

He also spoke about the high consumption of energy by AI tasks in general and particularly in training large language models; he underlined the urgent need to develop energy-efficient solutions-such as advanced power systems, including nuclear energy-capable of supporting the AI data centers without further environmental degradation.

He warned against the notion of looking upon AI as a universal solution and called for striking a balance.

“AI is a powerful tool, but it’s not a panacea for all challenges. We have to focus on its strengths while being aware of its limitations,” he said.
